How to Search Inside Apple Numbers Files on Mac
You need to check what Cedar Press charged for the last print run. You remember the supplier, but the quote could be in Book Launch.numbers, Budget final.numbers, or an Untitled.numbers file you saved months ago.
If you already have the right spreadsheet open, Command-F searches across its sheets. When you don’t remember which spreadsheet to open, Fenn lets you search across your Numbers files in one place. Type Cedar Press to find the spreadsheets that mention the supplier and see which sheet to check. Apple’s guide to Find in Numbers
How do I search across multiple Numbers files?
In Fenn, open Settings → Sources → Folders and add the folder where you keep your spreadsheets.
Open Sources → File Types, expand Spreadsheets, and select .numbers.
Click Run Index. If you’ve indexed other files before, choose Index new files.
When indexing finishes, search for something you remember typing into a cell. A supplier name or an invoice reference is a good first search. Fenn’s folder and file type guide

What can Fenn find inside a Numbers spreadsheet?
Fenn reads the names and contents of tables and keeps track of the sheet each table belongs to. You can search for a client name, a line item such as hardcover proofs, or an invoice reference such as CP-1048. Fenn also reads saved cell values, including dates, amounts, percentages, and the saved results of formulas.
Take the print quote. Suppose you entered Cedar Press in a table called Supplier Quotes on the Production sheet of Book Launch.numbers. The supplier’s name appears nowhere in the filename. Searching for it in Fenn can still lead you to that sheet, where you can check the quote alongside the quantity and delivery date.
This saves you from renaming every budget to include every supplier you might want to find later.

Do I need to export Numbers files to Excel or CSV?
No. Fenn reads .numbers files directly, including spreadsheets with several sheets or multiple tables on one sheet. You can keep working in the original spreadsheet without maintaining a separate export for search. Supported spreadsheet formats
Can I search client budgets privately?
Yes. Fenn indexes your spreadsheets on your Mac and uses local AI by default. Once your files and models are available locally, you can search offline. Sending a question and relevant file content to a cloud AI provider requires you to explicitly choose that provider. How Fenn handles privacy
Try Fenn for Mac with one folder of old budgets. Pick a client or supplier whose name you remember and see which sheet turns up.
