You remember modeling a chocolate donut with sprinkles. You want to reuse it in a new scene. Somewhere on your Mac, it’s sitting in Untitled.blend, Untitled_2.blend, or one of six other projects you saved that week.

You could open each file in Blender until you spot it. Or you could type donuts into Fenn and look through the matching previews.

What can you search for inside a Blender file?

Fenn indexes the names of scenes, objects, collections, and materials saved inside .blend files. If you named a material Brushed Brass, searching for brushed brass can bring you back to the project where you used it, even if the file itself is still called Untitled.blend.

You can also search by what you remember seeing. Fenn indexes available previews, so you can describe the asset even when you’ve forgotten what you named it in Blender.

How to make your Blender files searchable

  1. In Fenn, open Settings → Sources → Folders and add the folder where you keep your Blender projects.

  2. Go to Sources → File Types and enable Blender with the .blend extension selected.

  3. Choose Balanced or Best Quality indexing to include visuals, then click Run Index. Fenn’s indexing guide

Do you need Blender installed? Fenn can read saved scene data and embedded previews without it. If Blender is installed on your Mac, Fenn can also use it to generate extra views of scenes and objects.

Find the asset you remember

Once indexing finishes, open Fenn and type a detail you remember. In the example below, a search for donuts brings up Blender-Chocolate-Donut.blend. Beneath the filename, Fenn shows the matching scene and links to front and back views of the donut. You can check the asset before opening the project in Blender.

Try this with an old project folder. Search for a prop you built, a material you used, or an object you can picture. You can leave the filenames as they are.

Do your Blender projects stay private?

Yes. Fenn indexes your Blender files on your Mac and uses local AI by default. You can search an unreleased client scene without uploading the project or its previews. Once the models and files are available locally, search also works offline. Sending relevant content to a cloud model requires you to explicitly select that provider. How Fenn handles privacy
