How to Search Fujifilm RAF Files on Mac
How to Search Fujifilm RAF Files on Mac
A person crossing a rain-soaked street. A quiet café with green walls. A portrait taken in the last light of the afternoon.
You remember those photographs. Finding their original files is another story.
Fujifilm RAW photographs use the .RAF extension, often with filenames such as DSCF4821.RAF. After years of shooting, those names reveal very little about the images stored across your folders and external drives.
Fenn lets you search your Fujifilm RAF files by what appears inside them, privately on your Mac.
Search using the details you remember
A folder named after a trip helps when you remember where you took a photograph. It helps less when you remember only its colors, lighting or subject.
With Fenn, you can describe the image:
A person holding a red umbrella
A café interior with green walls
A bicycle leaning against a brick building
A portrait beside a window
A narrow street at night with neon lights
Fenn searches the visual content of your indexed photographs and returns the closest matches. Your description does not need to appear in a filename, folder name or manually added tag.

How to search RAF files with Fenn
Fujifilm .raf files are included in Fenn’s supported RAW formats.
To get started:
Open Settings → Sources → Folders and add a folder containing your Fujifilm photographs.
Under Sources → File Types, make sure
.rafis enabled.Choose Balanced or Best Quality indexing so Fenn can analyze visual content.
Run indexing and let Fenn prepare your photos.
Choose Semantic search, select the Images filter and describe the photograph you want.
Start with one shoot and try a few descriptions before adding the rest of your archive. You can also include folders on external drives. Keep those drives connected while indexing or opening their photographs.

Find the RAW original you want to edit again
If you shoot RAW + JPEG, your archive may contain both the photographs you shared immediately and the RAF originals you kept for later.
Months or years later, you might want to revisit a photograph with a different crop, color treatment or editing approach. Finding the original gives you that flexibility.
Fenn supports RAF files directly, so you do not need to export another set of JPEGs just to make your RAW archive searchable. You can index your originals alongside existing JPEGs and other supported image formats.
Describe the scene, find the RAF photograph and open it in your preferred compatible RAW editor. Your originals stay in their existing folders.
Search across your entire photography career
Travel, street photography, portraits and personal projects can eventually fill several drives.
Fenn does not impose a limit on the number of photos you can index. There is no cloud storage quota deciding which years of your work you can search.
Whether your archive contains 500 GB or 10 TB of photographs, you can index it on your own storage. Leave additional space for Fenn’s models and search index, and allow time for the first scan. Indexing time and search performance depend on your Mac, drives and library size. Learn about Fenn’s storage.
This makes older work easier to revisit when building a portfolio, preparing a print collection or developing a new project.
Your photographs stay private
Your archive can contain private moments, unpublished projects and confidential client work.
Fenn’s default indexing and visual search run locally. Your photographs do not need to be uploaded to a cloud AI provider, and the search index stays on your Mac or your chosen storage drive.
Once the required models are downloaded and your photographs are indexed, local search works offline. Learn about local processing.
Rediscover the photographs you kept
You saved your RAF originals because they were worth keeping. Making them searchable gives you more opportunities to use them again.
Try Fenn to find your Fujifilm photographs using the subjects, scenes and details you remember.
